BOTTLE CAPS

If you are drowning in bottle caps that you have been saving you can contact Louise S. at 321/202-7337 or  [email protected] and we will arrange a drop off. There still is not a place for drop off but the two programs taking caps are still collecting them. The IRL project to help filter the lagoon water and purchasing benches for local elementary schools. Please be sure all caps are clean!

CITY OF SATELLITE BEACH RECREATION DEPARTMENT

In early 2002 the Satellite Beach Recreation Dept. asked the Satellite Beach Community if there was an interest in starting a senior club. A meeting was announced and was attended by five people! From those meager beginnings, an ad-hoc committee was formed to move forward with initiating a senior club. It was decided to name the club “The 55+ Club of Satellite Beach”, but living is Satellite is not a requirement. Membership is open to every senior. Because the 55+ Club did not have its own  dedicated building, it was up to the City of Satellite Beach/Recreation Dept. to allocate rooms for club activities to meet.

The Director at that time was Kerry Stoms and she was very instrumental in the initial success of the 55+ Club of Satellite Beach. The staff then and the current staff under the direction of Recreation Director, Cassie Warthan, continue to support our club. If it was not for their assistance, we would not have a place to meet and this club could not function.

Most club activities meet at the David R. Schechter Community Center on South Patrick Dr., however activities such as bingo and larger gatherings have been utilizing rooms at the Scotty Culp Municipal Complex/Civic Center on Cassia Blvd. That facility has been closed for several months while it undergoes much needed upgrading but will soon open back up and will enjoy a beautifully renovated building!

Our hats are off to the City of Satellite Beach and the Recreation Dept. for their continued support.

CLUB ACTIVITIES

Due to the number of COVID-19 cases of club members in mid-January, a decision was made to suspend the following programs – Book Club, Walking, Widow’s group, and Line Dancing for the month of February. We felt it was the prudent thing to do. So as of this writing, which is early February, we are currently in this suspended portion of the month. Please do check with activities chairpersons listed on the front of this newsletter to fi nd out the status of these programs.

DUES ARE DUE

Please remember to pay your 2021 club dues. Even though club activities are at a standstill, we still have expenses to meet and your dues help us stay in business. We hate to take your name off our rosters, but unfortunately that will be done if dues are not paid. You may send your $10 payment to 1089 So. Patrick Dr., Satellite Beach, FL 32937 or drop it off at this same address M-F 8:30am-5:00pm. Checks are made payable to the 55+ Club.
