This number has been printed on each one of our newsletters and hopefully you have noticed, but what is it? HISTORY: 211 Brevard started in the 1960s as a grassroots volunteer organization dedicated to providing support for individuals and families affected by mental illness. The nonprofit was instrumental in starting one of Florida’s first teen and suicide hotlines, which soon expanded in scope in response to community need. Recognizing that callers frequently neededongoing services, phone counselors began collecting and maintaining information on local social services, organizations and programs. In the early 1980s, this information became part of the area’s first comprehensive database of community services. In 2001, 211 Brevard became the first in Florida and the seventh in the nation to implement the 2-1-1 dialing code following the Federal Communications Commission ruling designating the number for accessing information on local services. 2-1-1 is a special abbreviated telephone number reserved in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) as an easy-to-remember three-digit code to…

As requested, we have added magazines! Sept 28, at 1:00pm, at the DRS Center. Bring any used jigsaw puzzles, books, or magazines you would like to trade. This is an easy & casual event! Stay and visit for a bit or trade and leave. All items that you bring must be taken home if not traded. Please do not drop off items. Tell your friends! NOTE: Both the Volunteer Meeting and Puzzle, Book, and Magazine exchange are on the same day, at the same place.

Join this newly formed group! Bring anything you may have already written or ideas on what you are interested in writing. The purpose of this group is to encourage creativity and help give you that little push needed to learn how to write creatively! These sessions will be led by Tina (Filomena) Troso, who was born and raised in Italy. She is a new 55+ club member, who is a writer that has authored and published the books “Whispers” and “Through the Mist of Time”, along with several writings of poetry. This Creative Writing session will run for 8 weeks, meeting each Monday starting on September 26, 2022, at 2:00pm in the DRS Community Center. If you did not attend the July 27th Nat’l Bingo Day, you missed out on a good time! A total of 83 people were in attendance! Besides playing bingo, there were lots of opportunities to win prizes and everyone went home with something! Thanks to all the helpers that made this event a success. Bingo is held every Monday at the SB Civic Center. Doors open at 9:30am and playbegins at 11:00am. Card fees apply.
