Chairman’s Message
Dear Members,
Having been a Founding Member of the 55+ Club of Satellite Beach and your President for the past twelve years, has been an honor and rewarding experience for me. Unfortunately, the ride is coming to an end. I take with me many great memories.
The day I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, my father told me to always “Give Back” to the community, and that is exactly what I’ve been doing my entire life. To grow our membership over the years, I’ve always stressed the importance of adding value to the club with more activities and information relevant to our 600 members. You may or may not know that I am a Commissioner on the Brevard Commission on Aging and recently I’ve been appointed by Governor Scott to the Housing Authority of Brevard County. I am also an Executive Volunteer for United Way of Brevard, representing them at various County events. I am also a founding member of Florida Tech’s Lifelong Scholar Society as well as a member of their Advisory Council. As you can see, my plate of “Giving Back” is more than full, and for this reason, I’ve had to make the tough decision not to run for President of the 55+ Club this year. However, if the new leadership desires, I would be happy to consult and recommend as needed.
I will close my message to our membership by thanking the many past and current Board Members and Activity Chairpersons who formed the Leadership Team which has made our club such a success for twelve years.
I hope I have touched each of you in a positive way.
Warmest Regards,
Marty Hindsley

The 55+ Club’s Got Talent!
Do you love to sing or dance, recite poetry, tell jokes, play an instrument? Are you a closet performer? If you have secretly yearned to be in show biz, well, now’s your chance! This year at our Christmas Holiday Party and Annual Meeting December 11th, 2014, we are asking you, as members, to be the entertainment! Step forward into the spotlight, let down your hair and your inhibitions and expose the talent you have kept hidden from us all these years. Some folks have already stepped forward to sign up, but we would still like to hear from other shy but talented members. Auditions are a MUST! Call Louise Tavani 773-3160 or Louise Daley to set an appointment before November 17th. Only a few acts will be selected so start rehearsing now!
CRIBBAGE NEWS
On July 17th, the Satellite Beach Peggers (cribbage players) celebrated the 88th birthday of our leader, Jerry Nordling with a surprise party at the Neptune Restaurant. It was just over a year ago that Jerry and Paul Cribb started to play cribbage on Thursday mornings, and one by one, new players joined. Jerry then started a cribbage class which blossomed into an ongoing cribbage group. Now the group has between 10 and 12 players playing on Wednesday evenings and almost that many on Thursday mornings. Those attending this celebration were Mike Gibson, Carol Hammack, Laverne Johnson, Claudia Robbins, Lisa & Bernie Harland, Vernell Santa Maria, Gloria Tribou, Patrick Gilkey, Olga Clarke, Betty Boman, Barbara Hessler and Peggy Parker. We were sorry to miss one of Jerry’s newest players, Jacqueline Duncan, who couldn’t make it due to a work schedule. Jerry has plans for a new cribbage class in September at the Palm Bay library. Contact Jerry for more information, 321/777-3460.
