55+CLUB SPOTLIGHT: SENIORS HELPING SENIORS

Mother and Daughter Rosemary Barton and Jennifer Helin, Owners of Seniors Helping SeniorsAt Seniors Helping Seniors(R) in-home care we consider ourselves the first “rung” on the ladder of care. We are often the initial support someone has in their home and specialize in making this new help easier to accept. We hire active, healthy seniors to provide an array of services. Our caregivers come from varied backgrounds but have one important thing in common, the desire to help. Having someone a little closer in age with a similar background and interests makes a huge difference.

Services include transportation to and from the grocery, doctor appointments, or just out to lunch; light housekeeping, home-cooked meals, organization, companionship, handyman services inside and out of the home, and so much more. We find it important to the families we serve to be flexible and continue to offer a two-hour minimum and will do “as needed” services, no continuous schedule required. We tailor each service to the individual client’s needs. With any service we do, our goal is the same, to keep the seniors we work with as independent as possible, with the dignity they deserve. We listen first, then work together to make sure we are providing what is needed.

Seniors Helping Seniors celebrated seven years in business here in Brevard County back in April. We were happy to accept several awards this past year, including the Better
Business Council’s Business of the Month and the Hometown News Reader’s Choice Award for the third year in a row. The 55+ Club was one of the first organizations we visited. Several members have worked with us and we have been able to help several others. We are grateful for the continued support and look forward to working together for many years to come.

RELAY FOR LIFE

The 55+ Club has teamed up with the City of Satellite Beach to assist with this very worthy fundraiser. The Relay For Life movement is American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser dedicated to helping communities attack cancer. The Relay team has several events planned to raise funds. Garage Sale, Corn Hole tournament, bingo, raffle baskets are just a few. If you would like to assist with any of the events please contact Louise Stevenson at 321/202-7337 or louinthesun@cfl .rr.com to learn more information.

In addition we will be looking for garage sale items, so this will be a good opportunity to clean out and donate. We are also looking for donations of new items that would be a nice addition to theme baskets that will be raffled off. Of course, monetary donations are always accepted.

Renewal begins in September, but you are welcome to pay your 2020 dues anytime. From team members to volunteers, we all want to remember those we’ve lost, help those affected today, and give us a home team advantage against cancer. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, our communities are teaming up to make a difference. The funds raised through Relay For Life will not only honor survivors and remember loved ones, but also help give cancer patients and their families the resources they need, like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline for answers and support.
