THAT’S PUZZLING!

We will not be holding the puzzle exchange originally scheduled on Thursday April 30th for obvious reasons. However, here’s an interesting fact about jigsaw puzzles. Thanks to Jill Blakeway for sharing this.

The first known jigsaw puzzle was introduced in London, England by John Spilsbury in 1760. Called “dissections” a hardwood map was cut into pieces to aid in teaching geography to King George 111 and Queen Charlotte’s children.

The name jigsaw was given to the cardboard puzzle around 1880

With the recent social distancing and self-isolating rules, the jigsaw has enjoyed a new wave of popularity.

Working jigsaw puzzles can not only improve short term memory, sharpen problem solving skills, lower stress levels and exercise both sides of your brain. The AAA announced that puzzling may also reduce your risk of getting Alzheimer.
