2025 Club Meetings

The 55+ Club has had a long history of bus day trips. These trips have been very successful and have provided club members many fond memories. Trips have been provided at a ‘rock bottom price’ as compared to other clubs and travel groups.
This past year many, if not most, of the bus day trips have been cancelled due to a very low number of member sign-ups. This is very disappointing as much time and effort goes into the planning and preparation of these trips. The ultimate purpose is to provide our members with an enjoyable day experience with friends.
It is up to the club membership to decide if providing day bus trips should continue. Why has the sign-up response from our members been so low? What can be done differently to encourage more participation?
Here are some questions to think about:
-What type of destinations do you enjoy for a day trip?
-What activities would you prefer to include on a day trip?
-What travel time do you prefer (Weekdays, Weekends)?
It is up to you, our members, to help answer these questions and decide what you want from the day bus travel activity. Please provide any suggestions or ideas as to how you, the members, see the future of this bus day travel. Change needs to occur. Without change the day bus trip activity will no longer be offered to the 55+ club. It’s up to you.
You may send your comments to any 55+ Club board member. Also, all board members phone numbers are listed on the front page of the newsletter.
Thank you.

It’s that time of year! Our annual membership dues become payable in January of each year. If you haven’t already paid them, please stop by the Satellite Beach Recreation Offices, located at the DRS, to make payment. The offices are open 8:30am – 5pm Monday through Friday
Happy New Year!
Wishing our 55+ members and friends good health and happiness in 2025! We had about 100 members join us for our 55+ Annual Club meeting on the 12th, I thank you for coming and many thanks to all the people who made it happen. So many of our club members pitched in to volunteer, that was greatly appreciated.
A big thank you also to the City of Satellite Beach, the Recreation Center staff and Public Works for supporting us so 55+ can enjoy their many programs and events. The Club is going great and we look forward to even bigger things in 2025!

Many New Year’s traditions that we take for granted date from ancient times. This year, ring out the old and ring in the new with a New Year tradition—or two! From singing “Auld Lang Syne” to eating black-eyed peas for good luck, discover different ways to celebrate the start of 2025!
Make Some Noise to Ring in the New Year!
Making a lot of noise and light—from fireworks to gunshots to church bells— seems to be a favorite New Year’s pastime across the globe.
Eat Lucky Food for 2025!
Many New Year’s traditions involve food. Here are a few:
Have a Drink and Toast the Year!
Although the pop of a champagne cork signals the arrival of the New Year around the world, some countries have their own beverage-based traditions.
Give a Gift to Celebrate!
New Year’s Day was once the time to swap presents.
Put Your Best Foot Forward in 2025!
In Scotland, December 31 is known as Hogmanay. Along with fireworks, “First footing” (or the “first foot” in the house after midnight) is still common across Scotland. The first person to cross the threshold into one’s home, called the first footer, indicates the year to come. Although the tradition varies, if the first footer is tall and dark, the year will be a good one. Of course, the entire spirit of a Hogmanay party is to welcome friends and strangers with warm hospitality and lots of kissing all around!
Turn Over a New Leaf Next Year!
The dawn of a new year is an opportune time to take stock of your life.
New Year’s Folklore!
Some customs and beliefs are simply passed down through the ages. Here are some of our favorite age-old sayings and proverbs.
So, whether we resolve to return borrowed farm equipment (as did the Babylonians) or drop a few pounds, we’re tapping into an ancient and powerful longing for a fresh start!
