GARDEN GROUP:

The garden bed located at the tennis court area off of DeSoto is moving along. Unfortunately the club was inadvertently assigned the wrong area and spent time cleaning and weeding only to find out they were assigned the wrong bed! They have been assigned #13 and they’ve decided that’s going to be a lucky number!! So back to square one with weeding etc. If you are available, PLEASE DO go over to the bed and weed. Even though it has been weeded, we know more weeds will pop back up and any additional pulling will help. It’s a nice little area tucked back in the south east section with a picnic table in the shade, so bring your lunch.

In the future Gene would like to plan a trip to a local garden, but haven’t decided where and when. Come join them at the meetings on the second Mondays at 11:00am at the DRS Center. Call him for summer meeting location, and please, bring a friend. Gene also can share some good information about container gardening! Contact Gene at 321/773-4647 [email protected]

THE SATELLITE BEACH FIRE DEPARTMENT…

…is very active in our community with services that our citizens may not be aware of. In addition to providing 911 services for an emergency, the Fire Department also has a Community Health Paramedic Program. This program offers residents a “Wellness Check.” This “Wellness check ” helps residents stay ahead of an illness or injury by using a proactive approach. They will take vital signs, offer assistance with needed resources, and education along with a home safety assessment for fall prevention. The Community
Health Paramedic will also evaluate the current situation and advocate for the resident who needs medical assistance. They will recommend the most appropriate level of care and mode of transportation for the situation. This is an invaluable service and at times, it can save a life. Community Health Paramedic 24-7 on call Non-Emergency Cell Phone 321-313-4076, and Always For life threatening emergencies call 911.

MORE ON SCAMMERS!

Don’t believe everything you hear. Some folks act intentionally on their own, others in unison with other deliberate wrongdoers, and still others foolishly and unknowingly making themselves useful to such endeavors. The measure of evil is never zero. Always be aware!

Be careful if something:

  • comes out of the blue or from someone you don’t know
  • sounds out of the ordinary – like you’ve  won the lottery, or you’ve been invited to invest in an ‘amazing’ scheme and keep it a secret
  • asks you to pay for something in advance – especially by bank transfer • asks you for personal information – like your bank details, computer passwords or
    PIN numbers
  • pressures you into buying something or making a decision quickly – a trustworthy company will be happy to wait
  • asks you to phone an expensive number – these start with 070, 084, 087, 090, 091 or 098

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT ZON BEACHSIDE ASSISTED LIVING

Zon has been a 55+ sponsor before their facility was open! They have generously sponsored our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and their advertisement contribution helps defray the cost of our newsletter.

Construction will begin soon on their new addition. This will include 25 new assisted living and 6 memory care apartments, chapel, theater, large multipurpose room, an oasis, senior resource center and a therapy gym.

Guest speakers visit each month. The volunteer therapy dog teams are by far their favorite. They make personal visits to each room! Outings include, weekly shopping and
scenic bus rides to many fun & educational places. The parks and beaches are the favorites.

Monthly holiday meals are held and they invite everyone to Family Nights and decorate the dining room. If there is no holiday that month, they create a cultural theme that is carried through with other activities. Each month they have a big birthday celebration for those with birthdays, with entertainment and cake for all.

Besides basic programming, each Sunday live music or shows are offered in the main dining room and each Thursday in Memory Care. Weekly exercise, dance and tai chi, Prize and Dime BINGO, 2 church services plus a prayer circle are offered.

Zon has had been chosen as the Outreach destination of several local groups, such as Indian Harbour Beach Garden Club, who bring in guest speakers. Kindercare joined with
Zon in an Inter-generational program. Satellite Beach Football Team visits to “hang out” with residents, playing games and enjoy snacks together. Zon has strong affiliations with
local churches and are looking to expand this network once their Chapel is built!

Laverne Johnson who was an original member of the 55+ Club is now a resident of Zon. She tells us ““Zon is a wonderful place to be and I couldn’t have picked a better place to live”. Those who remember Laverne would know she speaks her truth!

Their passive health monitoring system will be integrated into the new addition. These are: infrared camera and motion sensors that monitor walking; a mattress pad that monitors pulse, respiration and sleep patterns.

Zon’s future is very bright. Schedule a tour to see if they are the right new home for you or your loved one.
